I am very happy to present the latest of the Anso Gadgets....!

These are my new "Barbar" multitool milled from solid .200" titanium and the longer "Prybar12" is milled from .125" titanium

The Barbar features bottleopener, prybar and 1/4" bit wrench.

The "Prybar12" is a dedicated prybar and bottle opener tool, features a pocketclip.

With this project I have been doing some serious experimenting. First of I have changed some of the ways I put my folders together to ensure a stronger and better folder with less chance of problems like ofcenter blades, sticking locks etc...secondly I have been using my CNC to rough out parts plus doing experimental textures....This Outbreak project has taken far longer than any of the previous projects but has been well worth it....I have developed 5 different textures in the process plus produced some of the best functioning folders I have ever made...

As usual 5 have been made of this design in the test phase and 2 of these will be available via lottery. I will be posting a gallery thread with all 5 shortly...

Specs of the folders: 3 1/4" blade in .200" RWL-34, 7 1/2" overall... .156" titanium lock side and handle side. Frame textured, beadblasted, anodized and stonewashed. These all have Spyderco opening holes

All blades have various grinds...both symmetrical and assymetrically...I like !

Titanium Carabiner project

Anso Titanium Carabiner project.

CNC milled in the ANSO shop from .210" thick titanium 6Al4V. Measures approx 3" x 1 1/2". Spring custom made from stainless steel. Weight is approx 1.2 oz. These have been beadblasted, anodized and stonewashed in blue, green and bronze. 24 have been made in this first batch.

finished this prototype today as my first project after the bladeshow...it was nice to work on something like this to get started again after more than a week out of the shop....turned out really nice in my opinion. The knife is based on the most recent Outbreak. The main difference is the blade features a Spyderco opening hole instead of a thumbstud.

The knife features a 3 1/4" handrubbed blade in .200" RWL-34, 7 3/4" overall... frame made from contoured .140" titanium. All the titanium parts has been beadblasted, anodized, stonewashed and anodized again for a very cool suttle look and feel. The screws and standoffs are heatcolored ...This knife will sell via auction. The auction will be open for 24 hours from posting. When Luc and I made the Tera project we decided to make one for each of us as well.....this one was the one we made for me...

I hate to sell it but bills have to be paid so this one is now available.

This one features like the other Tera´s double titanium bolsters and have contoured brown canvas micarta scales. The blade is stonewashed and acid etched with Luc´s special viral etch. The titanium parts are anodized and heavily stonewashed for a really distressed look. The blade features a assymetrical grind. A truly one of a kind :)

During the Burnley / Anso collab we decided to make one very special Tera and put it up for auction.....we call it the "Tera Alien"

This knife features a modified bladeshape with a stonewashed blade deep hollow assymetrical grind. All the titanium parts has been beadblasted and stonewashed, the blade has been stonewashed and acid etched ...the handle features a special alien techno texture done specifically for this project.

As a special feature for this auction we will be sending the knife to be profesionally photographed and the winner will get a framed picture together with the knife.

I finished this bad boy today...turned out really nice in my opinion The knife features a stonewashed 3 1/2 blade of .200" thick RWL-34 with a deep hollow assymetrical grind and a nice swedge on one side. The frame is .125" titanium and all the titanium parts has been beadblasted, anodized and stonewashed and then anodized again for a very cool look and feel. The knife features a 3 1/3" blade of .200" thick RWL-34 with a funky assymetrical hollow grind! The single sided frame is made from .130" 6Al4V titanium and the scale is made out of black/grey G10 with my Techno texture. Deep beadblasted! black G10 exposed backspacer and an engraved pocketclip. All parts except the scale has been stonewashed.

I just finished the one of a kind double action automatic folder for a customer. Turned out to be one of my best work ever in my ow opinion. I like the kind of futuristic look it has ...old mixed with newThe blade is 5 3/4" Bertie Reitveld Dragonskin damascus. The same material is used for the button and the screw collars. The bolster and clip is made from Ed Schempp Barbed Wire Damascus. The frame is titanium that has been beadblasted, anodized and stonewashed. I just finished this rather funky folder today. The knife features a stonewashed 4" blade of .200" thick RWL-34 with a deep hollow assymetrical grind and a nice swedge on one side. This design is based on the Outbreak project V.118-78 but with a few modifications to the bladeshape. I made a single thumbstud out of titanium. But the screw collar on the right side of the blade actually also functions well as a mini thumbstud. The frame is .125" titanium and all the titanium parts has been beadblasted, anodized and stonewashed to a very cool look and feel. The scale is made out of black/blue G10 with my Techno Texture. I just finished this rather special Funk folder today.

The knife features a 3 1/3" blade of .160" thick RWL-34 with a deep hollow grind and a nice swedge on the back. Instead of the original Spyderco hole this knife was designed with I made a double thumbstud out of titanium. Has checkering on the tops for a nice grippy feel. The single sided frame is made from .140" 6Al4V titanium and the scale is made out of black/orange G10 with my tight crop circle texture. Deep beadblasted! Handmade titanium standoffs and an engraved pocketclip. All parts except the scale has been stonewashed.

Proud to present the first Anso knives of 2010....Testlab Outbreak v. 623-62

I think this design is one of if not the coolest Testlab Outbreak project I have ever done....I have a very great feeling about this design and think it is a great start of a new millinium!!

As usual 5 will be made of this design in the test phase and the 3 shown here are available via lottery.

Specs of the folders: 3 1/2" blade in .200" RWL-34, 7 3/4" overall... .140" titanium frame. blade and frame beadblasted and stonewashed. All blades are assymetrically ground...high hollow on one side and medium high hollow with swedge grind.

These all feature a variant of my new "wafle" texture on G10. The blades are all etched with "Testlab Outbreak" The mark is etched deep, crisp and dark....just the way I like it...

Specs: Double action automatic. Blade made from .200" stock Ed Schempp San Mai Mosaic Damascus Barbed Wire pattern. 4.75" long. Bolsters from similiar though not San Mai steel. Handle in Desert Ironwood. Liner in .122" titanium dual finish (beadblasted and anodized sides and jeweled inside), 3 layer backspacer in Titanium.

I finished this one of a kind folder today. This is a rather small folder but it is still a very usefull tool due to the beefy materials used. I made the blade out of Mike Norris SS Damascus. The blade is just shy of 1 1/2" long and the overall lenght is 3 3/4. The blade is .200" thick!!! It can be alittle tricky to see in the pics but the blade is hollowground allthe way to the back as most my knives are....The frame is made from .125 and .140" thick titanium (the thicker is used on the textured side to make the two sides look equally thick). The backspacer is black G10. This folder does not have a pocket clip but rather a small lanyard with a titanium disk marked "ANSO 2009" and "1 of 1". The knife is intended for either deep pocket carry or my favorite...in the jeans watch pocket. In the later the lanyard and disk works great to pull the knife out with.

Been working the past week on this new Outbreak model. I figured it was time to investigatre more into the flipper business and designed this one last week.
This time I have been working in the approx 3 1/4" range with this new design. Overall lenght is approx 7 1/2". Blades are made from 1/5" thick stock RWL-34 with a nice hollowgrind. Frames are made from .140" titanium. The all have an internal or hidden stoppin and have stonewashed blades with handrubbed flats.

I started out preparing parts for 6 folders but the last one disagreed with me quite a bit and I ended up having to restore the balance of power with my trusted ball peen hammer....! SO.....back to the regular 5 Outbreaks we are again

Since I just bought a Bridgeport and big Deckel pantograph I had to expand the shop....if you followed the last build thread I had you saw the status of the room I am working on.......now I managed to build a really strong floor....have to be with about 5-6000 pounds of machinery being added ....ceiling and walls are next.....

today I took delivery of the Bridgeport and in a couple of weeks or so I will get the Deckel.....went easyer than expected....

I really like this model Outbreak and have been carrying the second I made since April last year...really nice..!

I am preparing a major overhaul to the Ansoknives.com site and one of the tings needed done is some pruning of the older models to allow room for new ones...! I am not sure when these changes can be made yet but hope it will be within the next month or so. So I figured I would give you all a heads up. Thing is if you feel you really NEED one of these models I am discontinuing you just need to get on my waiting list before I do. The way my list works is all models available from the time you get signed up and forward will be available when your name is up.....so think about it and if you need any of these send me an email asap!

it is alittle sad to see these go as I love these models but I also feel they represent something in my design history that is long gone and I need to constantly move forward. decided this weekend it was about time I did some sound reduction on my dust system.....it was noisy as hell so I buildt a frame around it and insulated and covered it all up...also did an outside "muffler" that reduces the soubd from the excaust.....managed to reduce the sound alot....now you hardly notide it when you walk past my shop....before you would have to yell to have a conversation near it....

Finished these two balis over the last couple days....These where made to fill out some way overdue orders....

first is a Daggersong with Devin Thomas Spirograph blade and carbon fiber over titanium frame....

Next is a Mini Amok Bali...actually the first I ever made if I am not mistaken....the client wanted it with a high finish so I handrubbed the blade to 1200 grit and jeweled the inside of the frame and then textured and anodized it a dark bronze color....please excuse the poor pictures of this one....was shot in the shop...not ideal but wanted to show this one off too...

I just finished this one of a kind friction folder and it is available for sale!

The knife is made from Mike Norris raindrop damascus and the frame is made from titanium and black G10. The bladelenght is 2 3/4" and the overall lenght is 6 1/4" The blade is made from .200" stock with a nice high hollow grind and swedge on the back. The frame has a single turned titanium standoff. The blade is held open and closed only via friction (no lock) but when open you hold over the extended tangs which keeps the blade from closing.

State of the Anso Nation!

Alot of stuff is going on in the Anso shop and it is about time I did my State of the Nation writeup...!

First things first!

Orders:
Over the last year or so my deliverytime has grown from around 10-12 to 18 months and is continuing to grow. I find that the time needed in the office has grown substantially in order to keep up with correspondance, forum and homepage upkeep etc. To help me spend my time most effeciently I am going to change the way I accept orders rather radically. I was considering all kinds of different approches to help keep my deliverytime reasonable, among other simply stop taking orders. However I feel that I would loose some of what makes this whole business worth all the hard work...the direct communication with the customer figuring out excactly how that next knife should be made. On the other hand I know that when you order a knife and 18 months go by alot of variables gets into play. Your collection may change, you may discover new materials you like or I present new models that you would rather have. Your might be broke or lost interest in my work..(hey in theory it could happen )..well the solution for this is to start a waiting list rather than an orderlist. Works about the same but the details of the order is decided about a months before your sceduled to recieve the knife rather than the day you order. That way I save alot of time since I don´t have to maintain and keep track of hundreds of knives on order at a time, I don´t waste time by changing or canceling orders. I don´t have to read through 5 or 100 emails to make sure I got all the details from the last 18 months wait noted down. If the customer ”disapears” I have not invested alot of time that I could have used better by discussing orders with customer who have been waiting paitiently.

SO...from this day I will put names on my waitinglist and give an estimate on when I will get to that persons name. Approx 1 month before I am ready to build that knife (or knives) I will contact the customer and ask what model he/she would like and how it should be made. If I for some reason do not hear back from the client or the client wishes to cancell I simply move on to the next in line. Hope this makes sence. I will make a more thorugh post regarding orders alittle later that will explain verything in detail as there are a few things that needs to be put down in writing.

CNC:
No I have not bought a CNC millingmachine...yet... however I have a very good friend near by that has his own CNC machineshop. To help maintain reasonable delieverytimes and to maintain reasonable sane I decided it was time to get some help to some of the more mundane chores in the shop. Since I allready design all my folders using CAD based programs it was easy for me to get these designs CNC ready. So far we have been working on the 67 design and the Zulu design.

It is of great importance that the work done by the CNC does not influence the final product in such a way that it takes away from the handmade qualities of the knife. I do not want to go on compromise in any way so what my friend and I have come up with is that we use the CNC for the outer profile for the blades and frames. The various holes are either drilled/milled close to final size and later driller or reamed by me or simply marked with a small dimple and again drilled and reamed by me. After this is done I go over the full profile myself on the grinders to finetune and adjust. What all this saves me is simply a bunch of time in front of the bandsaw and grinder and is comparable to having the blanks laser or waterjet cut. Shows:
So far this year I have been at the Bladeshow and the Scandinavian Knifemakers Guild Show. In late November I will attend the New York Custom Knifeshow for the first time and I really look forward. If all goes as planed I wil continue to attend the Bladeshow and New York show every year. I like how these two shows are spaced out over the year giving me approx 6 months between shows. I hope to see you there!!

Outbreaks:
As you may have noticed that Outbreaks have been quiet lately...so whats going on??
I have not stopped designing and I have not closed it down but rather put it on hold to try and get up to date on my orderbook. While I am still behind I am catching up..! I expect you should see two more Outbreak designs before the year is over...! Stay tuned!

Special projects....:

Any day now really the Rocklobster made by Spyderco will hit the streets. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am about this being my first collaboration with a production company. I hope this will be the first of may to come!!

I am currently working together with Joel Pirela on a special folder project...!!! and I must say that I am am more than excited about working with him on this. It is a RAD design and I hope that I will be able to show you more soon!

I am also working on a special limited edition project together with my buddy Jesper Voxnaes (Vox). We are still in the planning phase but intend to to at least one folder/fixedblade project together. Stay tuned for more on this!

Auto Amok

I just finished this Double action Auto Amok for a customer. This is only my 3rd. automatic to date and I feel I am getting the hang of it.... The blade is 5 3/4" worht of Vinland Damasteel with heatcolored Mike Norris bolsters and Stellar Seacow handles. All screws are heatcolored. This flies open with a loud clack ...! The double action is tricky to make but feel I nailed it on this one...it is all about the construction of the firing mechanism. it took 40 parts total to build this knife...no wonder it takes a long time...!

This is my Rasta model with Mike Norris Raindrop damascus blade (SS)...bolsters are Reitveld Dragonskin...contoured and heatcolored. Scales are Stellar Seacow....everything handrubbed to 1200 grit ...screws has been heatcolored...!

this is my new EDC....this is serial nr 2 from the April Outbreak V.369-44 .......Figured it was about time for me to get one of my Outbreaks... The blade is 3 1/3" of stonewashed RWL-34 and the overall lenght is 7 2/3". The frame is a single sided framelock out of .140" titanium with handleside out of green/pistacio G10 with integral backspacer.....the frame has been stonewashed also....hope you enjoy the pictures....I know I enjoy the knife....together with the knife is the rest of my EDC stuff....Surefire pen and Surefire light with a Starlingear Curby lanyard thingy... laying on top of my Arcteryx hooded jacket....

teasers...this is a small design a friend called barely legal ....well...it is a friction folder ...NO LOCK.....the tang extension will hold a splitrind or thin cord....should be able to show pictures of the finished knives tommorow....I am sending 6 of these to Daniel at FenixOutfitters.....keeping one for me and a second for my buddy Vox! so...what do we have here....pix of parts...each folder is made from 12 parts ...will be a while before I work on 8 folders at the same time again....I really can´t stand working like this ...but pretty effective though...

as promissed I will show the new model I will present at Blade called ZULU....exclusive preview for your eyes only This model originates from the Testlab Outbreak V.57-411 from December 2007. I really like this one ...in fact so much I just made one for my self as EDC knife. It is a semi small knife yet it performs as a much bigger knife...! 3" worth of .200" thick RWL-34 blades....I hope you like it..!

First one I am showing is a solid titanium framelock with one side made from .160" plate with deep crater texture. The lockside is .130" titanium...Blade is handrubbed

next is this one made again as framelock with black and blue techno textured G10 and stonewashed blade....LOVE this techno texture!!!

the previous two will be with me at Blade....as well as two more....THIS one is for a delivery at the show....F22 CF and Timascus, handrubbed blade....

Rare folders available...! Prototype and folder #100

This is a very rare chance for you to score two very unique knives. I have been carrying these knives for the past years and just finished my newest EDC today and these need a new home.

First is the prototype for my Rebel model. I made this knife back in late 2003 or early 2004. It is only the 5th folder I ever made and is ofcourse one of my earliest models. When I designed this knife it was meant to be a street legal folder in Denmark, hence no opening hole. I have been carrying this folder almost every day since I made it. I has lots of patina but is in good shape. The handle is Denim Fibermascus and if I am not much mistaken it was some of the first Fibermascus made. Back then I was in the testgroup of this material and the Rebel was one of the "testknives" for the material. The frame is buildt from 3 layers of titanium...one layer under the scalematerial in approix .100" thickness and two .050" layers on the lockside - one layer covering the lock. The inside is jeweled and marked with my name and the serialnumber P0105. The outside has been beadblasted. The blade is handrubbed. This knife has been pictured in Knives Annual 2005 as well as a couple times in knifemagazines if my memory serves me right...

This is a knife I have been very happy to carry. It is my Nemo model and is folder #100 I have ever made. I made this knife back in 2005 and is serialnumbered 04100. This is a framelock made from .125" titanium with shadowboxed desert fibermascus as scalematerial. The clip is what has become my very popular textured clip that originates from the Amok folder. This Nemo was the first folder I put this style clip on besides the Amoks....I have been carrying this folder almost everyday since I made it and has crossed the pond with me several times. It is is perfect working condition but ofcourse has lots of patina. The frame is beadblasted and the blade is handrubbed.
